In January we are going to look at what it means to be a missional church.
What does a missional church mean then: The members of a missional
congregation think, plan and act in alignment with God's calling in
the Great Commission. The vision, mission, staffing, policies,
priorities and budget are intentionally determined in light of the
congregation's role to share Gospel of Jesus Christ to their
community. This key "missional" aspect is as important as
serving the needs of their own existing members.
There are five key areas a missional church focuses on:
- Worship…is vibrant and Christ centered(1 Chronicles 16:29)
- Discipleship…is strong, calling members to grow in and through the Word of God. (Psalm 119:105)
- Service…that connects the community to Christ. (Matthew 5:16)
- Outreach…is focused on those who do not yet know Christ as their savior. (Acts 1:8)
- Leadership…multiplying servants to multiply ministry. (1 Peter 4:10)
As we learn more about these five areas we also want to grow in them.
At FOC our mission is "Touching Lives with the Love of Christ". As we
touch lives we want to keep these five areas in mind, so that we can
be ever more effective at living and fulfilling God's mission to a
lost and fallen world.
